We've always felt that the earlier you can check in, the better your odds of getting a nice site.  That philosophy stood us in good stead here - we arrived about 1030 AM on Sunday morning, and were able to get one of the best sites right down near the water.  Mary, the Manager, is a delightful hostess, full of good tips about the town .

Date of visit: Aug 2009

It is a fairly small campground and sites are all out in the open and quite close together.  However, as space permits, they leave alternate sites empty, so you're not quite as close to your neighbor as you will be when the CG is busy.  Here are sites 11-24.

Sites 1-9.

Sites 1-9 looking toward the water.

Sites 32-39 are for tenters and offer no hookups.  They do have have little shelters over the tables.

Sites 12-24.  This is a rally group that arrived during our stay, and they were given adjacent sites - you can see how close you and your neighbor can be.
Sites 25-28 are also for tenters - no hookups.

The office is in the left hand building while modern, clean bath facilities with free showers are in the right-hand building.

This view from across the harbor shows how the campground is situated right on the waterfront.
You can step out your RV door and watch a working harbor.
In the distance across the harbor is the Fortress of Louisbourg.
A short walk will take you to the Sydney & Louisburg Railway Museum.  Three buildings contain exhibits pertaining to the RR and its parent company, the Dominion Coal Company.
Right next to the campground is the Louisbourg Playhouse, which offers nightly presentations of Cape Breton music and comedy.  The theater was built in 1993 by Walt Disney Productions for the filming of Squantum and originally represented Shakespeare's Globe Theater.  After filming was complete, the theater was donated to the town, which enclosed the roof and made other improvements.
A short drive around the harbor takes you to the Louisbourg Lighthouse.  This is the third lighthouse at the site, built in 1923.
