We made an overnight stop at Wekiwa Springs in early January. We had no problem getting a site; we were assigned Site 31.

Date of visit: Jan 2008

There are two camping loops, each with 30 sites. Sites have water and 30A electric hookups. There is a dump station near the campground. This shows a few sites starting with Site 34 on the right. This is typical of the wooded nature of most of the campground.

Here are Sites 40, 42 and 43.

Site 48 is a larger site with a bit more privacy.

The sites in the first loop, 1-30, offer a tad more sun and thus would be appreciated in cooler weather. Here is Site 3.

On Site 6 we found an old school-bus conversion.
Sites 17 through 25 are the sunniest sites; this shows Site 17.

In the center of each loop is a bathhouse. It was "sort of" heated on a rather chilly morning with the temperature down to 30 degrees.

Some rather interesting dumpsters here, supposedly bear-proof. Florida black bears are common in the park.
The sing on the dumpsters.

The spring is quite large, issuing forth 42 million gallons a day, with the water temperature a constant 72 degrees.

There's a large swimming area at the head of the spring run. Despite the air temperature of 40 degrees, there was a fellow swimming laps.
There are 15- and 2-mile hiking trails, 8 miles of horse trails, and 9 miles of biking trails. Near the spring is the start of a short walk on a boardwalk that gradually leads from the lowlands near the spring to slightly high ground.
More of the boardwalk. We encountered hundreds of birds in constant motion in the trees.
The Wekiwa spring run, where canoers can head out to paddle 15 miles of canoe trails. Remote camp sites are available.
If you don't have your own canoe, the park has plenty to rent.
