We were assigned site 78 when we checked in. A staff member in a golf cart guided us to our site. Everyone was very courteous and made us feel welcome. Date of visit: Feb 2008 |

This pretty much sums up what the campground looks like. Most sites are in the open sun, while a few, including ours, at least offered a small shade tree. Sites are quite close together and this part of the campground is right beside busy FL-40, so there's a lot of traffic noise. |

We were in the oldest section of the campground. As lots are sold, owners begin improvements, such as paving and landscaping. Most of the sites for rent are grass - looks like it could be pretty wet and muddy in a good rain. There's also a lot of construction noise. |

Beyond the shuffle-board courts is the newly-renovated bathhouse, very nice with free hot showers. |

Swimmers and sun-worshippers can enjoy the new pool and spa. |

A very nice attraction is the River Park Cafe, just inside the park front gate. It offers good food at good prices and friendly waitresses. |

This is the main road through the middle of the park. The two older sections are on the right, while to the left work is underway on 130 new lots in the Preserve Estates section. |

One of several ponds on the property. |

The largest pond has RV lots around three sides... |
...and is home to this Great Blue Heron. |

A new community lodge offers a game table, a large screen TV and a small swap library. There is also a computer room with ethernet connections for your laptop. |
|
|
The Ocklawaha River runs by the west side of the campground. It's a great place for going out in one of the rental canoes or kayaks. |
The Ocklawaha River. |

We saw a good variety of birds, including this hawk. |

Wilderness RV Park
Wilderness RV Park is located just east of Silver Springs FL on FL-40. Originally a traditional campground, new ownership is making major upgrades and additions with the aim of turning it into an upscale RV resort with condominium-style lots. This type of park is not our cup of tea, but with it being a three-day holiday weekend as well as the 50th anniversary of the Daytona 500, it was all that was available.
