    Yuma Army Proving Ground, AZ

Yuma Army Proving Ground is located about 15 miles north of Yuma AZ, off US-95. Note that use is restricted to military personnel only.

Before making the 15-mile trek north from Yuma, I called the office to ask if there were sites available; Diana told me to come on up. We arrived at noon and were soon settled on site 41.

    Date of visit: Mar 2008

Looking toward the south end of the campground. This is the area of sites 12 - 32.

Looking northward from the same spot as above, showing generally sites 1-40.

Beyond the fenced dog area is the loop containing sites 63-84.

    Another view of sites 63-84.

This view shows the area of sites 46-62.

At the north end of the campground are 7 sites with no hookups.

This building contains the bathhouse, library, and laundry facilities (75 cents/load). More impressive is the building that houses the office; it also contains a computer room, large-screen TV room, game room, exercise equipment, and a general meeting room, where various functions are held.

Right across from the bathhouse is a car and RV wash.

Just about anywhere one goes, one finds some local item of interest. Here at Yuma APG, it's a display of the cab control car of a US Army Land train, developed in the early 1960's. It could haul a "train" of 10 cargo wagons about 400 miles at an average speed of 5 mph. The control cab also contained living quarters for a crew of 6.
