Samuel P Taylor SP is located near the town of Olema, north of San Francisco just off Hwy 1. Located in a redwood grove, it is pretty dark, and sites are rather small. In fact, parts of the CG are restricted to vehicles less than 18'.

We arrived on a Sunday afternoon and had no problem finding a site. Site 49 struck our fancy - fairly large, level, and private.

    Date of visit: Apr 2008

Many of the sites are intended for tenters, and thus have just a pull-off to the side of the road for parking. This is site 53.

Sites 7-20 are located along Mill Creek and limited to smaller vehicles, less than 18'. This is site 16.

If you have a bigger rig, there are 6 "parking" spots for you.

Site 23. After camping in the CA desert and along the shoreline, the darkness of the redwood forest really shocked us.

One of three bathhouses in the campground. This was the oldest, and wasn't in the best of shape. But the pay showers ($.50 for 5 mins) did provide nice hot water almost instantly.

There's a nice 1-mile trail from the CG to the site of the first paper mill on the west coast, built in 1856 by Samuel P Taylor.

The redwoods trees are certainly spectacular with their height and girth.

Mill Creek, near the ruins of the paper mill.
