West Thompson Lake COE, CT
West Thompson Lake Park is located in northeastern Connecticut a few miles north of Putnam. West Thompson Lake was formed with the 1965 construction of the West Thompson Dam for flood control and seasonal storm water management. The campground is a small one and not as thoroughly developed as most COE parks in other parts of the country; that is due to the relatively short season that the park is open. That being said, the park staff takes great pride in the park's upkeep. Roads and campsites are gravel; sites are raked when campers depart.

We have rarely encountered a COE entrance station as well-maintained as this one, with lots of flowers and carefully raked paths.
It was a fine New England day when we arrived, so our walk around the campground was quite pleasant. This is site 1.
Sites are well-separated and generally quite level, as site 3 shows.
The small van is on site 5, while the rig in the background is on 7.
Site 9 is a large site.
Site 11. Sites 1 to 11 each offer 30-amp and water hookups.
Site 14 is located near the bathhouse and play area.
Site 18 was finished was set off with timbers and was very flat.
Sites 12 to 22 do not provide any hookups. This is site 22.
There are two sites with lean-to Adirondack-style shelters. This is site 1A.
The bathhouse is modern and very clean. It features hot showers and flush toilets.
In the center of the campground is a play area for the kids, where they can climb, slide and swing.
Near the entrance to the campground is a half basketball court and a set of horseshoe pits, complete with flood lights for night play.
If you're interested in a campfire, the park has plenty of wood for sale - $5 a bundle.
Near the campground is a boat ramp. It is gravel and very steep, so I would think that it is not suitable for large, heavy boats.
Starting near the boat ramp is an 18-hole disc golf course. Some of the holes, such as #1 shown here, are in the woods while others are more open.
