We had called the night before our arrival to reserve a site, of which there were plenty available. We had not been here before, so weren't sure about what sites were better than others. Looking at the park map and Google Earth we picked a south-facing site, #8, for our Puddy-Tat who likes to lounge on the dashboard in the morning sun. It proved to be a good pick as it was one of only five paved sites. It's near the bathhouse and is undoubtedly intended for handicapped campers, but is not marked as such.
As we start our walking tour of the campground we see sites 1-3.
These three sites, 8-10, are paved and are located near a bathhouse.
Sites 16, 18, 20 and 22.
Site 26.
Site 34.
You're probably beginning to get the picture - all the sites here are pretty much alike. Most are fairly sunny but some also offer a bit of shade; all except five are dirt and sand and each has water and electric hookups.
Site 39 is unique with its parallel strips of cement for an RV's wheels.
Site 42 is a nicely-shaded site near the boardwalk to the shoreline.
Site 48 is located on one of the cross-roads in the center of the campground.
Another of the paved sites is 56, as is its next door neighbor 57.
Sites 65 and 63.
Site 68 struck me as a nice site with its shade and a bit of a view.
If you like sun, site 72 should measure up.
There are three bathhouses down the center island of the campground loop road. We found them very clean with free hot showers. Although handicapped-accessible with ramps up to them, the shower stall for such use is rather small.
Located near the center of the campground is a modern play area for the kids.
Down at the far end of the camp road is a large area for group camping.
The group area includes this community fire ring where campers can gather for some campfire good times.
Near the group area are four sites designated for use by volunteers in the park, a welcome change from the usual FL park policy of using the few first-come/first-served sites for volunteers.
A lot of lumber is represented in all the boardwalks located throughout the park.
The West Beach swimming area is about a 1/4 mile walk from the campground.
Ah, the good life!
If you have a boat with you, there is a ramp in the park. Rental canoes, kayaks and stand-up paddle boards can be rented.
At the far end of the park road is a four-story observation tower at the edge of the bay. Keep your eyes peeled for some bird activity.
