We've discovered that finding campsites in Florida is a little more difficult this winter, be it the low gas prices or the severe winter back in New England...or perhaps both...so we had called Lake Monroe a week or so before our planned arrival and were able to reserve site 6.
Date of visit: Jan 2015

A little further down the road from our site are sites 7-10. All sites are quite level; we didn't even bother to extend our leveling jacks. It's a bit of a challenge setting up a satellite dish, but with the help of an app on my phone I was able to find a hole through the trees.
Across the road are sites 22 to 24.
Site 11 with site 12 to left on the other side of the bushes.
Site 1 was a little more open than most and well-situated for satellite reception.
Site 14. The park really reminded us of the smaller Florida state parks, with the live oaks and palms.
Sites 15 and 16.
Site 3 is a large open site near the bathhouse.
The bathhouse is quite new and provides individual bathrooms with showers, toilets and sinks. The bathhouse was part of a $1.2 million renovation project completed in 2004.
This is one of two dual boat-launching ramps. The park is on an inlet at the southwest corner of large Lake Monroe. It boasts of being a top bass-fishing lake.
Near the boat ramps are docks for fishing.
There is a large day-use area with a pavilion and a nicely-shaded play area for the kids.
Another attraction at the park is the Spring-to-Spring Trail which passes through the park. The first several hundred feet of the trail are along a wide wooden walkway.
The boardwalk wends its way through a cypress swamp.
Once past the swamp, the path is paved the rest of the way to Gemini Springs and on to Green Springs, a total of 7.5 miles.
This little guy was lurking on the fishing pier, hoping for a handout.
As we walked the trail one morning, we spotted this creature - pretty good size!
I'm not sure if this is a true strangling fig, but it reminded us of those we saw in Key West a few years ago.
