As one enters the RV park, the office is on the right, right across from the Campground Host. The staff and volunteers are all friendly and helpful.

Oak Grove gave us a great Plan B when our reservations at the nearby National Park Service's Fort Pickens campground was cancelled the day of our planned arrival due to expected road flooding. We called Oak Grove and managed to get the last site available for the long Thanksgiving weekend. We were assigned to site 36.
Partway through our stay we had to move to another site, number 48, a waterview site. |
Our first stay here was back in Feb 2007. We called only a couple of days before our projected arrival and were fortunate to get a site for 4 nights. Here we are on #16.

 Sites 31-35.
Sites are generally shaded here, but not densely. One does not feel like he/she is in the deep dark woods, and it is possible to set up a satellite TV dish on most sites, although roof-top dishes might be a problem on some. That's why we carry a small portable dish with us.
Sites 46-49 are considered waterfront sites and carry a $4 surcharge. I'd say they are more waterview than waterfront - it's a bit of walk to the beach.
Sites 42-44 are on the east side of the camppground facing the tenting area.
 Sites 19-24.
 Sites 14-18.
 Sites 6-7.
 Sites 11-14.
Sites 9-10 are the only pull-through sites in the park.
 Sites 25-29.

Very nice bathhouse with hot showers. The laundry is also in this building.
In the center of the main loop is the community room. It has a wood stove in the middle, a TV, and tables for games or eating. Campers can swap books and magazines.
Beside site 46 one finds the short path to the beach.
Typical of the Gulf Coast is the brilliant white sand.
About half a mile up the beach one finds the Pensacola lighthouse.
Built in 1824, the first Pensacola Lighthouse was the first on the Gulf coast. 35 years later, this 171' tower replaced it. The lens was originally rotated by a clockworks mechanism; it was electrified in 1939. Automated in 1965, the light is still in use. It is said to be haunted. This year (2015) we found the lighthouse decorated for the Christmas season.

Just under a mile from the CG is the National Museum of Naval Aviation. I highly recommend spending at least most of a day there. The museum features an IMAX theater, with several different films shown throughout the day. We saw "The Magic of Flight" - awesome!

Among the aircraft on display are these former Blue Angels members.
