    Seawall Campground

     seawall1

Seawall CG is one of two campgrounds within Acadia National Park; the other is Blackwoods CG. Blackwoods is located on the eastern side of Mount Desert Island, closer to the main attractions (and crowds) of Acadia NP and Bar Harbor. Seawall CG is located on the southwest side of the island, where life's pace is much less hectic. Blackwoods CG takes reservations, while Seawall CG is first-come, first served.

Our last visit to Seawall was in 2012. As is usual in the fall, we had no problem getting a site, this time #24.

    Most recent visit: Sept 2012

Back in 2007 we visited Acadia NP during the third week of September, and we had no problem getting a site, in this case C10, which was a bit sunnier than most. During the summer season, however, campers line up early in the day, hoping to get a spot when/if someone leaves. There is a 14-day stay limit.

The Lazy Daze is on site C16, while sites C3 and C4 are in the foreground. Sites C1-C12 are arranged in pairs, with a yellow line across the middle to delineate the spaces. When the campground is full, this puts you in very close proximity to your neighbor.

Looking across site C20 in the foreground, we see another Lazy Daze on site C17.

There are no hookups here, but there is a dump station and fresh water is available.

The bathhouses are modern and clean, but....no showers. There is a store about 3/4 mile from the CG that offers hot showers for 3 minutes for a dollar.

    seawall7
There are four camping loops, with Loop C reserved for RV's - the others are tents only, although we did see some pop-up campers in those sections. This is site B1.

Seawall CG takes its name from the natural seawall located near the campground. It's a great place to spend a sunny September day watching the surf.

The tide hit its high point just before dusk.
