McLeod Park is located in Kiln, MS, near the north end of the runway at Stennis International Airport. It's a just a few miles north of I-10, so it's a convenient stopping point for east-west travelers. Owned by the Pearl River Basin Development District, the park is operated and maintained by Hancock County.

When entering the park, the first thing one sees is the new (2014) park office.

We had called a day or two before our expected arrival to see if a reservation would be necessary; it was not. There were lots of empty sites. We were assigned site 42 near the river. But it was a bit too shady for us in this cooler weather, so we scoped out some other possibilities.

    mcleod26
Site 58 struck our fancy - out in the open with lots of sun and with the river right behind it. We checked at the office and were told we were free to move there.

    mcleod06
Beginning our tour of the campground, we'll start with site 41, a nice private site at the far end of the campground road.

    mcleod07
In the same area are sites 38-40.

    mcleod08
You can see how close the park is to the approach zone of the airport. There is a fair amount of air traffic in and out.

    mcleod09
Site 39B is on the right, located beside a boat ramp.

    mcleod10
Sites 51-55 all face the river across the road. All the roads in the park appear to have been paved rather recently.

    mcleod11
Site 57 is right beside the river. Behind it on the left is site 56.

    mcleod13
    Sites 78 and 79 (a pull-through site)

    mcleod14
    Sites 65-71 are located in a cul-de-sac.

    mcleod18
    Sites 118, 120, 121, 123 and 125. The fiver is on 118.

    mcleod19
On the left are sites 25-29, while on the right side of the road are sites 135-138.

    mcleod20
Sites 126, 128 and 130 on the left, 127-129, 131 and 132 to the right.

    mcleod21
If you like shade, sites 30-35 might suit you.

    mcleod22
    Sites 53-55.

    mcleod23
Looking down the road past sites 42-50.

    mcleod12
Near the public boat ramp are sites 60-61.

    mcleod12
There is a single, small bathhouse near the center of the campground. It could use some work: doors missing from toilet and shower stalls, a missing showerhead and overall rather dirty. The showers were warm, but not what I would call hot.

    mcleod15
There is a large day-use area with picnic pavilions, a basketball court and a disc golf course.

    mcleod17
The younger kids will have fun climbing in the large play area.

    mcleod24
A dual-lane boat ramp lets fisherman easily get their boats into the river. Just beyond the ramp is a fishing pier.
