Three Rivers Petroglyph Site, NM

Three Rivers Petroglyph Site is a BLM-administered facility located off US-54 between Tularosa and Carrizozo, NM. Over 21,000 petroglyphs have been discovered here, along with the site of an ancient indian village. Facilities here include a picnic area, hiking trails, a modern restroom, and a few camping sites, including two with RV hookups.

We arrived about 10AM on Veterans Day and found no campers here, so we had our choice of sites. We took one of the two RV sites with water and electric hookups.

This is the other RV site - they're quite identical to each other. The cabanas are nice in the hot afternoon sun.

There are several cabanas in the parking area, where RV's are allowed to dry-camp.

Near the edge of the parking area are three raised tent sites; the third one is just to my left.

There is a small modern restroom facility with flush toilets. There are no showers, however.

Just a short walk from the campground is the site of the Jornado Mogollon settlement of about 1000 years ago.

The petroglyphs are located up along a ridge. A half-mile trail takes you up through jumbled basalt where the Mogollons did their rock carvings. That's the campground in the middle of the picture.
