  • Glimmerglass SP, NY

Glimmerglass SP is located at the northeast end of Otsego Lake, about 6 miles north of Cooperstown NY. There is a 40-site campground (no hookups), a large swimming beach, and some historic sites.

Our destination for the day had been Delta Lake SP near Rome NY. But after driving through the park to pick a site, we decided to move on - Delta Lake's campground is located in deep dark woods. Thus we were quite relieved to find some nice sunny sites at Glimmerglass. Site 34 suited us just fine. In fact, it was so pleasant we signed up for an extra night.

    Date of visit: Jun 2009

Even sites that are more shaded have lots of grass and are quite pleasant, such as site 7.

Site 10 is a large shaded site, with a play area just behind it.

Site 11 in the foreground, with sunny site 12-A in the background.

    Sites 25 and 25-A.

In the middle of each of the two loops are play areas with swings and volleyball nets.

The bathhouse was very clean with hot showers - only one temperature, however, hot!

A vierw of the large beach. The campground is in the woods just beyond the beach.

Located within the park is Hyde Hall, an English-style mansion built by George Clarke between 1817 and 1834. It is considered to be one of the finest surviving examples of Classical Revival architecture in America.

The broad veranda provides a delightful view looking down Otsego Lake.

The Hyde Hall Covered Bridge was built in 1825 and has the honor of being the oldest existing covered bridge in the country.
