We stopped here for a night on our way home after a snow-bird winter in the south. As usual we had no reservation, and we had no problem getting a site. When we arrived at the campground the office was closed; while I was reading the signs on the bulletin board to see what to do, a woman pulled up and asked if she could help. She told us to follow her to the main part of the campground, where she pointed out several available sites and collected our fee for the night. |
On a fairly steep hillside behind the office are a number of seasonal sites. |
Two more of the seasonal sites. Most of the sites in this area enjoy great view of the lake. |

I don't normally rate campgrounds, but if I did, Cherokee Park would not rate very high. Most of the park seemed to be well maintained, but not so much the campground area. Mostly seasonal campers with lots of "stuff" around their rigs. Sites were just dirt - a little gravel would improve them considerably. The bathhouse was pretty primitive and run down. I doubt we would stop here again. Nicer choices in the area would be either Panther Creek State Park or Cherokee Dam TVA Campground. |
