    Despite its name, Castroville Regional Park is owned and operated by the city of Castroville. The campground is just a part of the 126-acre park. There are several miles of hiking trails, soccer fields, picnic areas, playgrounds and creek fishing available to visitors.

    We arrived the day after Christmas to find three empty sites - we chose 24. The Camp Host was away for the holidays, but his neighbor was filling in, and soon had us checked in.

    Sites 11-19 on the left, 20-27 on the right. The campground is nicely shaded, but sites are quite close to each other.

    Sites 20-27 on left, 28-35 on the right. Most of the occupants are long-term residents - there is a six-month stay limit. New oil activity in the area has brought in workers who are living here.

    Across the road from the main campground area are sites 35-40, which are out in the open.

    There's a modern bathhouse with hot showers. Next door is a small building with laundry facilities and a community room, complete with a kitchen, large TV and a computer.

    You can try your luck fishing in the creek that runs along the park.
