Davis Mountains SP is located in west Texas, about halfway between Del Rio and El Paso. It's elevation of 5000' offers some lower temperatures, and the terrain provides many hiking opportunities. There is a large campground with 94 sites and a full-service lodge.

Seeing as how Spring Break was getting underway, we had made a reservation a few days before our arrival. In TX state parks, you cannot reserve a particular site, and are assigned one when you arrive. We were quite fortunate in getting a very nice site, 5, with some shade, but no too dark.

    Date of visit: Mar 2008

There are a number of pull-through sites; here are 2 and 3 on the left, 18 on the right.

The loop with sites 17-27 is much more open. This shows sites 24 and 25.

Sites 31 and 32 offer a little more shade.

Sites 46 and 47 are quite sunny...and short.

There are four bathhouses throughout the campground; two of them, inluding this one, offer hot showers.

Dozens of deer roam the campground. Thanks to people who see no heed to obey the signs and feed them anyway, they are very tame and always on the lookout for a dole.

There are hills and mountains all around the campground. We climbed the hill on the right after breakfast.

Off to the north one can see the McDonald Observatory.

Javelinas are found here. We saw this one, and several others, on our hike.
