Magnolia Ridge COE Campgrpound is located on the west shore of Steinhagen Lake, 12 miles west of Jasper TX on US-190. Thre are 41 campsites, 35 with W/E(30A) hookups. Some also have a sewer hookup, and there is a dump station.

As we headed west from Jasper toward Magnolia Ridge, we were treated to snow flakes mixing with the rain through which we were driving - temperature was 37. Guess the weather was keeping folks home, as we found the campground nearly empty. We ended up on site 25, with Steinhagen Lake right behind us. We couldn't see much of the lake, thanks to a stand of cypress trees just offshore.

Sites 17 and 18, near the boat ramp.

Our impression of Magnolia Ridge was that it wasn't quite up to the normal COE standard that we usually encounter. It's obviously an older campground, and is still recovering from hurricane damage. Only a few sites are paved, most are gravel and others are just dirt or grass. Lots of downed trees, with crews working on clean-up.

Site 27, like most sites, backs up to the lake shore.

    Sites 30-32.

A nice amenity at each site is the canopy over the picnic table. I'm sure its shade is welcome in a Texas summer.

Site 36 offers a special feature - a nice little wooden screenhouse. It's the only one in the park.

The bathhouse is fairly new and offers the necessities, including hot showers. It is not heated or air-conditioned.

There are three boat ramps in the park - this one is in the middle of the campground. Steinhagen Lake is very shallow and boaters should use caution to avoid hitting submerged logs and stumps. At least there is water in the lake now; last year we stayed at Sandy Creek on the other side of the lake. The lake was bone dry - drained for work on the Town Bluff Dam.

An interesting picture that shows the cypress stand just offshore.
