  • Screen Door Opener

    rb115-116

After seven years I finally got around to this quick little project - a method for unlatching the screen door without having to slide the plastic panel open. This is an amalgamation of several different openers that others have made. A stiff piece of wire is mounted into a hole drlled in the door handle; it sticks up through a hole in the top of the inside door handle. You merely push down on the knob and door opens. I didn't want to cut a slot in the side of the panel for the wire, so I added a half inch wide piece of weather stripping, leaving about a 3/16"s of an inch extending out to the right. It was easy to cut a slit in the felt stripping, so now it's sealed fairly well so the bugs can't get in.
