Musings of the WxToad

Trust me - The WxToad does NOT lean to the left!

August 2010

mrtoad balance
30 Aug 10: I must be living in a dream! A few weeks ago we learn that the Obama administration decided to drop the charges (AFTER being convicted!) against some New Black Panthers accused of intimidating white voters at Philadelphia polling places. Then a few days ago the administration says it will not deport thousands of illegal aliens ALREADY in custody. And now Obama says he will not prosecute the master-mind of the attack on the USS Cole. What is going on here?

-------

21 Aug 10: And people complained about Bush's abuse of power ?? Where are those people now as yet another presidential take-over takes place, with no congressional input whatsoever? In July President Obama, by executive power, created the National Ocean Council (NOC). This comes after 5 years of failed attempts by Congress to pass comprehensive reform of US maritime policy.

The stated goal of the NOC is seize unprecedented control from states and localities over “conservation, economic activity, user conflict and sustainable use of the ocean, our coasts and the Great Lakes.” The NOC is chaired by John Holdren....you know, the guy who thniks forced abortions would be fine in order to save the planet. Also on the NOC: energy/climate change czar Carol Browner, who is strong proponent of tough cap and trade policies; AG Eric Holder, who undoubtedly will do his best shield the council's work from public scrutiny; Dr. Jane Lubchenco, head of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, who supports drastic reductions in the commercial and sport fishing industries; and Ken Salazar, king of off-shore drilling moratoriums and willing to lie to justify them.

The Council is also specifically tasked to cede our maritime sovereignty to the United Nations via the U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea.

All this done by a stroke of the pen - no votes, no debate, no amendments. Where has been the media coverage of this? Obama surely has an interesting take on the concept of transparency. The president who would be king?

-------

20 Aug 10: So now even Nancy Pelosi has spoken out on the Ground Zero mosque controversy. She has joined other liberals in calling for an investigation into the source of funds for the critics of the proposal. Why? Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I thought we something called Freedom of Speech here in the good ole US of A. The left must think otherwise. Big Brother is watching?! Hmmm, I wonder if Nancy will want to investigate the funding source for the WxToad's Musings?

-------

13 Aug 10: A few months ago (April 2010) the Center for American Progress (CAP) published a report with education reforms the Obama administration should consider. Keep in mind the CAP is funded by the very liberal progressive George Soros, many of whose zealots (such as Van Jones) are now or have been Obama administration officials.

The title of the report is :Education Transformation: Doing What Works in Education Reform”

http://www.americanprogress.org/issues/2010/04/pdf/dww_education.pdf

On page 5 of the report we find this:

"The Department of Education supports numerous, mostly small grant programs that serve niche purposes. Many of these programs should be eliminated, including:

• Academies for American History and Civics. This program, which provides workshops for teachers of American history, is not coordinated with other professional development programs within the Department of Education and is not based on the needs of states and localities.

• We the People. This program is an earmark grant to the Center for Civic Education to instruct a small number of students on the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights.

• Cooperative Education Exchange. This program is another noncompetitive grant to the Center for Civic Education to support curricula and teacher training programs in civics."

Isn’t it interesting that these three programs all have to do with teaching our young people about the US Constitution and our government. Why would we want to eliminate things like that? The report downplays them as minor programs with little impact on many students.

Well then, if that’s the problem, then maybe they need to be expanded to include more students, rather than eliminated. Why wouldn’t we want to teach our children the foundation of this country?

Could it be the progressives would prefer a generation to come along that is ignorant about such things? And if no one is knowledgeable about the basics of the Constitution and our basis of laws, then the progressive can blithely ignore them and in their infinite wisdom foist upon us their warped view of what the government should be and do. Why does the left think that it is so smart and rest of us don’t know enough to know what is good for us?

-------

10 Aug 10: Well, well, well ....is anyone surprised at what happened in Washington today? More importantly, is anyone PO'ed about it? Another stimulus bill passed - a paltry $26 billion, this time to bail out states! So the good folks in Indiana and other states that have managed their states well and have no fiscal woes now have to pay for the wasteful, liberal spending in states like California and Illinois. That sure angers me! And I have let my liberal congressman, Richard Neal, know that I will do all I can to support his GOP opponent in November. I urge you to do the same. Stop the madness !!

-------

7 Aug 10: Ever since the BP drilling rig in the Gulf exploded in April, all we have heard is how this is the worst environmental disaster in the history of the US, one whose impact will felt for decades. We were reminded repeatedly that affects of the oil spill in the Gulf off the Mexican coast in the 1970's can still be seen. But then BP supposedly succeeded in stopping the flow of oil, and golly gee, now the government says that 75% of the spilled oil is gone !! Just like that - poof. Do they think we're that stupid?
