December 2010

29 Dec 10: President Obama has spent the past two years blaming all the country's woes on former President Bush.. But gee - in those same two years Obama managed to catapult us to a 21.4 percent federal spending increase, stick us with a $1.2 trillion deficit and help us ring our debt up to an almost $14 trillion level.

27 Dec 10: They're baaack! Death panels, that is. All during the healthcare debate last year, Obama and the Dems repeatedly said there was no provision for anything remotely resembling so-called death panels. Well, guess what? Once again he was lying to us. On Dec 3, Dr. Donald Berwick, Medicare administrator, issued a new regulation detailing "voluntary advance care planning that is to be included during patients' annual checkups. The regulation aimed at the aged may include advance directives to forgo aggressive life-sustaining treatment." Berwick, you may recall, has publicly stated in the past that health-care rationing will be necessary. Especially when Obamacare strips $500 billion from Medicare - there obviously won't be enough care available for all. Read the NY Times article.

21 Dec 10: Obama and the Democrats are showing their true feelings about the defense of the country; I'm referring to the flawed START treaty that is about to be ratified. First of all, no treaty has ever been ratified in a lame duick session. Secondly and more importantly, Obama and the Russians don't even agree on what it says. The Russians insist that it contains prohibitions on the US building missile defense systems; Obama says that it is not true. Republicans who oppose the treaty agree with the Russian interpretation. We have no business ratifying a treaty whose language is in question. And we have no business signing a treaty that prevents us from defending ourselves!

17 Dec 10: Once again Christianity bows to the Muslims. In England the Red Cross has banned all signs of Christmas in its 430 fund-raising shops. No Christmas trees, no "Merry Christmas" greetings and no Christmas cards. When workers questioned the policy, they were told that they must not upset Muslims. Why are we so blasted concerned about their feelings - they sure don't care about ours (witness the Ground Zero mosque).

16 Dec 10: Did you see the latest on global warming? "Professor Phil Jones of the British Met Office conceded the possibility that the world was warmer in medieval times than now – suggesting global warming may not be a man-made phenomenon. And he said that for the past 15 years there has been no ‘statistically significant’ warming."

How "Inconvenient" - now what is Al going to do?

Read the Daily Mail article.

15 Dec 10: Yesterday the Boston Globe ran a story about teenagers who are receiving disability payments from Social Security. The article highlighted two who were afraid to get after-school or summer jobs like their friends because it could impact their disability checks. Now wait a minute: IF they're willing and able to get jobs, then why are they receiving disability payments? Why does the government persist in encouraging moochers?

11 Dec 10: Say - who's the President, anyway? I never thought I'd be praising Bill Clinton, but he sure made Obama look like a fool yesterday. He took over the White House briefing room and made an excellent defense of the tax cut deal that Obama made with the GOP. Clinton did it using diplomatic language and giving a little credit to the other side for what they gave. What a difference from the arrogant and condescending attitude of Obama and his "hostage taking" accusations. You have a lot to learn, Mr. Obama.

10 Dec 10: How long should people receive unemployment checks? At some point it just becomes free money and discourages people from seeking employment. Here's an idea: after the first year, payments should be in the form of a loan that must be paid back. That would encourage folks to seek work and reduce the drain on the funds. Why should they get something for nothing?

3 Dec 10: A few days ago Obama announced a pay freeze for federal employees. Not a totally bad idea, and I used to be one. But even more meaningful would have been the announcement of a federal hiring freeze.
