Musings of the WxToad

Trust me - The WxToad does NOT lean to the left!

January 2011

22 Jan 11: Professor Noam Chomsky recently said that the election of Republicans to a majority in the House was a "death knell for the human species." This is because of the GOP's refusal to accept the premise of man-made global warming. He dismissed the views of skeptical meteorologists as just "pretty faces that present the weather forecast."

Meanwhile, just a few weeks ago a panel of more than 1000 scientists from around the world have challenged man-made global warming claims made by the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and former Vice President Al Gore. Many of the skeptical voices are current and former members of the IPCC. "I view Climategate as science fraud, pure and simple," said noted Princeton physicist Robert Austin shortly after the scandal broke.

Hmmm - I wonder whom I put more faith in - the thousand scientists....or Noam Chomsky? Oh yeah, Chomsky is a linguist, so what are his scientific credentials?

15 Jan 11: Once again we've seen the incredible ineptness of the federal government in spending our hard-earned tax dollars. The Department of Homeland Security has cancelled the electronic virtual fence project along our southern border, saying it just doesn't do what it was supposed to. Oh by the way, that's only one billion dollars down the drain! This is the same government that is going to reduce the budget deficit with Obamacare? Any bets?

14 Jan 11: The left continues to show its hypocrisy regarding the debate about civility in political discourse. A woman called in to Washington Journal on C-SPAN this morning to say that the rhetoric really needs to be toned down. And then a couple of sentences later she said that Sarah Palin has the brain of a toad. Well gee - that's real civil!

-------

12 Jan 11: Last weekend's shooting in Tucson appears to be the product of a deranged young man. There is nothing in his rambling tirades that indicates he was motivated by current political discourse. But...the left certainly wasted no time in blaming the conservative right and Sarah Palin for the tragedy. Within minutes of the shooting they were saying the violent rhetoric of the right was responsible. But wait a minute: what about the left's language? Just a few months ago Former Rep. Paul Kanjorski, a Democratic Pennsylvania congressman told the Scranton Times Tribune that Rick Scott, the GOP candidate for governor of Florida, should be shot! Quote: “That Scott down there that’s running for governor of Florida - Instead of running for governor of Florida, they ought to have him and shoot him. Put him against the wall and shoot him.” That's just one example of the left's hypocrisy. As far as I'm concerned, both sides of the politcal spectrum have gotten pretty nasty. What happened to the days when you could civilly disagree with a political opponent without having to resort to such violent speech?
