Musings of the WxToad
Trust me - The WxToad does NOT lean to the left!
27 Feb 14: Some of you may know that I spent my working career as a meteorologist; thus I find the ongoing debate over climate change very interesting. The bottom line is that the science is NOT settled - scientists do NOT universally agree that man is responsible for climate change. Even the UN panel on climate change says there has been no warming for the past 15 years. But the believers, for whatever their reasons may be, do their best totally savage and destroy anyone with an opposing view. Thus we see these egregious examples of stifling debate:
The Los Angeles Times has stated that it will not publish Letters to the Editor from skeptics.
Micheal Mann is sueing Mark Steyn and others for questioning his statements in favor of climate change.
The believers have tried to silence Charles Krauthammer for merely stating that the science is not settled with a petition to try to get the Washington Post from publishing his article.
How about the New York Times suggesting that deniers be stabbed?
The head of the University of Virginia Environmental Sciences Organization says "deniers" should not be allowed to speak on campus. This, at the university founded by Thomas Jefferson, who said, “here we are not afraid to follow truth wherever it may lead, nor to tolerate any error so long as reason is left free to combat it.”
Whatever happened to honest debate?
25 Feb 14: Our nation's decline into a nation of lawlessness took another dive yesterday when Attorney General Eric Holder urged state Attorneys General to not enforce their states' bans on same-sex marriage. How can officials who swore to uphold the laws of their nation or state decide which laws they'll enforce and which ones they will not. Why do we bother with laws?? If one disagrees with a law, one can work through proper channels to get that law changed or repeal, but one can't simply ignore it.
Debra Heine of Breitbart states it well: "What Holder is really telling the nation's Attorneys General, is that it is okay not to enforce laws that are hostile to a progressive agenda. If State AG's can pick and choose which of their own laws to defend or enforce based on their ideological persuasions, why would they stop at gay marriage bans?"
16 Feb 14: The Left loves to rant and rave about the Koch Brothers and their excessive support of conservative causes. But just how much do they really contribute in relation to other major political donors? Opensecrets.org recently put together a list of the top all-time donors to political causes. Guess where the Koch Brothers fall on the list: number 59, with $18 million in donations from 1989 too 2014. Top spot on the list goes to a PAC called ActBlue, which has donated $97 million, with 99% of it going to Democrats. Six of the top ten are unions (gee, am I surprised?) who have donated $278 million to mostly Democrats. So those 7 contributors with their $375 million certainly make the Koch Brothers look like cheapskates. Here's a link to the complete list - it's very interesting, and it makes it clear that liberals get a lot more money than conservatives.
15 FEb 14: Hey - how about that UAW union vote at the Volkswagen plant in Chattanooga? Workers voted against joining the UAW, saying they were happy with their jobs and didn't need the union. Some also expressed the thought that after seeing the woes of the American Big Three auto makers, brought on by unions, they didn't want to risk their company and factory. It's great to see some smart workers out there.
5 Feb 14: In his interview with Bill O'Reilly the other day, our president said there was "not a smidgeon of corruption" involving the IRS's dealing with conservative groups. Well, if that's the case, why did Lois Lerner take the 5th Amendment when called to testify in Congress? Why did the IRS commissioner resign? Seems rather strange that they would do that if there had been no mis-doings.
