  • Wintering Over in Florida - '03-'04

Summer zips by here in New England, and once fall settles in, it starts to cool down quickly and the snowflakes start appearing. We had just moved into our condo in MA in Sept 03 and within a month we had a 3" snowfall. That got us thinking about escaping; soon we had packed up the LD and headed south. Here are a few spots we enjoyed during our sojourn.

Mid-November - just about packed up and ready to hit the road. 5-210001
5-280001  Tom & Debbie Abernathy stopped by to visit us while we were at the Navy Rec Center at Solomons Island MD (only 12 miles from our former home!) They had just recently purchased their 30' LD.
Sunset over the Patuxent River, just across the way from our site at the Navy Rec Center. 5-300001
6-280001  Imagine our surprise when we pulled up to our site at Manatee Springs SP, FL and found another LD right beside us. T'was the Bullivant's from Pensacola.
The early morning mist rises off the warm of the run from the warm spring at Manatee Springs SP.  6-280003
6-290001  Saw this dude looking for breakfast along the run.
The town of Carrabelle FL obviously has quite an operating budget. Here's what they bill as the world's smallest police station.  7-10001
7-070002  The Camp Host site at Ochlockonee River SP, FL. We spent the month of January there performing our first stint as volunteers. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. The chipmunk belongs to a grandson - he likes to have it travel with us over the winter.
The lighthouse at St Marks National Wildlife Refuge. We stop here every year to enjoy the birding and hiking.  7-160015
8-040001 Site #36 at St Joseph Peninsula SP, FL. This is one of our favorite parks and we stop by every winter to see the "gang".

On the way back north in March, we spent a few days at Hunting Island SP, SC. We were there right at high pollen time - the LD was bright yellow in no time.

The nearby city of Beaufort is a "must-see" place, with many beautiful old homes and huge live oak trees.

     9-0713
9-0903  The next stop north-bound was at Edisto Beach SP, SC. Found it a little busier in the spring than in the late fall, but we still got a nice site. And we were even graced with this rainbow arching over our LD.
We spent two weeks at the Navy CG in Annapolis while seeing doctors and dentist. Annapolis is a quaint old city, filled with streets like this one. 9-2606
9-2621  A trip to the US Naval Academy is a must while in Annapolis.
