Riverside Park Campground is located on the north side of Springfield, IL, about 4 miles from downtown.

It was a hot (95 degrees) summer day in September when we were passing through Springfield, so we were looking for a place with electric hookups and some shade. We found both here. Although most of the sites are quite sunny, we were lucky to find site 82 with a large tree to provide some welcome shade.

Date of visit: Sept 2013

The gravel roads through the campground seem to have no rhyme or reason; they meander here and there, and are easy to confuse in some spots with the pull-through sites. These are sites 84-87.

riverside spi06
Site 68 is a large, open site.

riverside spi07
Sites 56-59 are quite sunny.

riverside spi08
There are three campground loops at Riverside. sites 56-87 are in the furthest loop. Sites 45-55, shown here, are in the second loop.

riverside spi09
Here is the first loop, with sites 33-44.

Near the office is a row of narrow sites, 21-32, each very close to its neighbor. BTW, I never found sites 1-20.

riverside spi12
Sites 60-62.

riverside spi13
Sites 78-82.

riverside spi03
There are two bathhouses, both in the third loop. They were rather spartan, but adequately clean. In one, the shower room was boarded up.

riverside spi05
In the middle of the third loop is this brick tower (chimney? kiln?) with what appears to be the remains of a Aermotor windmill on top

Near the entrance to the park is this BMX course. Fortunately, from a noise perspective, it's not too close to the campground.

87 sites, 75 with 30A/water hookups, $25
