The Great Around-the-USA Adventure
Minnesota and Wisconsin
22 Jun 08: On to Minnesota and Wisconsin. We've picked up the pace the bit for this part of the trip - sorta, kinda gotta start thinking about getting home.
For pictures and comments of all the campgrounds we visited, click on "Campground Reviews" in Top Menu or on the links in the journal.
23 Jun 08: We spent last night at Watona Park, a campground operated by the city of Madelia. As we were leaving town this morning, we came across this mural depicting the capture of the Younger Brothers in 1876.
And who, you're asking, were the Younger Brothers, right? They were the last of the infamous James Gang.
We passed LOTS of cornfelds in Minnesota, and also in Wisconsin. And we also passed several new bio-energy plants that were undoubtedly using all this corn to make enthanol for gasoline.
Here's a neat little round barn.
In every town, and sometimes in between, you'll see feed and grain elevators.
So much for Minnesota - here we are about to cross over to the east side of the Mississippi River, where radio and TV station call signs begin with W, instead of K. Which reminds me of the radio station we passed back in Mitchell SD - KORN.
Just a patriotic American scene along the Mighty Mississippi.
East of the main river are a number of side channels, with the Wisconsin bluffs in the distance.
24 Jun 08: Last night we made a rare overnight stop at Wally-World in Eau Claire. Helps to balance the budget once in a while. We're boycotting WI and MI state parks for their outrageous (at least to us) fees. We've been finding more city snd county parks to stay in for a lot less money. And they've all been very nice campgrounds. Tonight we're at North Bay Shore Rec Area in Oconto WI, a very nice county park on the shore of Lake Michigan.
