Bismarck Lake - USFS, SD

Bismarck Lake CG is located on Rt 16-1 four miles east of Custer. It is just inside Custer State Park, which normally charges a $10/vehicle entrance fee; however, if you tell them you're going to Bismarck Lake, then you don't have to pay. The CG has 23 sites on a hillside overlooking Bismarck Lake.

It was a close call getting a site here on a Monday afternoon in mid-June. There were only three left when we pulled in, with another rig right behind us. Site 10 was to our liking - level and a bit a view of the lake.

Date of visit: Jun 2008

Site 15 is one of the largest sites.

Sites 18 and 19 are along the road leading down to the day-use area and boat launch.

Sites 22 and 21 are also along that road.

Sites 6 and 7 are tent sites at the far end of the CG road.

Site 5 sits with a nice view of the lake.

There are three of these new vault toilets located in the CG. No showers.

Down at the boat launch is a new boardwalk that goes along the shore of the lake. At the far end are steps up to the CG.

Near the far end of the CG is the dam that creates Bismarck Lake.
