    George L. Smith II SP, GA

    Down in southeast you'll find George. Smith SP about 15 miles east of Swainsboro off US 80. The park is situated around a 412-acre lake, created by a most interesting structure: a combination dam, covered bridge, grist mill and saw mill, built in 1880. The CG offers 25 RV sites with W/E(30A) hookups. There are also 4 cottages available for rent, several picnic shelters and a playground.

    Most of the sites back up to the lake, which is really a large bald cypress swamp, deeper thanks to the dam. There were only 4 other RV's here when we arrived on 29 Nov, so we had no problem finding a site. We chose site 21.

    The clean bathhouse is heated and offers free hot showers and laundry facilities (75 cents a load).

    We wished we had planned to be here two nights - it would be great fun to take one of the rental canoes out along the water trail.

    The Watson Mill sits atop the dam, and serves as a covered bridge as well as a sawmill and grist mill. The grist mill has been restored and is operational today.
