We had called a few days before our planned arrival and learned that a reservation would not be necessary. When we arrived we found the campground completely empty, giving us our choice. We decided on site 1 for its view of the lake.
Sites 2 and 3 are really each end of a pull-through site and were designed back when RV's were a lot smaller. One good-sized trailer and tow vehicle would take up the entire length.
Similar are sites 4 and 5.
Site 6 is a back-in site. Two days after we arrived, this rig pulled in, so there were two of use here for the weekend.
On the right is site 7, while an un-numbered, no-electric site is on the left.
There is another single pull-through site, number 8.
There are 4 or 5 tent sites with water-only hookups.
The only drawback to the campground is how uneven the sites are. Even with our levelers, it also took nearly all my blocks to get the rig nearly level.
Don't have an RV or tent? No problem, you can rent one of these small primitive cabins. I thiink they are the smallest ones I've ever seen.
The bathhouse is very well designed and the park manager keeps it spotless. The showers are definitely HOT! There is also a laundry room.
Meadow Lake was created in 1938 when a dam was built to provide water to Crossville. The dam underwent a major renovation in 2012.
There is a boat ramp and a small marina.
Rental rowboats, canoes and kayaks are available. In the background is a fishing dock.
About half a mile from the campground is the trailhead for a 1.7 mile trail that loops out and follows along some of the lakeshore.
Soldiers Beach is .6 of a mile from the trailhead. It was built during World War II as a recreational facility for US troops managing a nearby German/Italian POW camp. No sign of a beach today.
As the trail wends along the shoreline, one sees a number of bird boxes.
This huge burl looked like a panda hugging the tree.
